I speak with Fit Model Wendy Kaplan about our being hoodwinked by the fashion industry and even she says we out to stand up and revolt!

Ro’s Ribs
January 21, 2010
One of the things I love to do in my spare time is to cook up a good meal for my friends. As a Southern girl, I believe that a good home-cooked meal is like the difference between a long-distance phone call and hug at the front door. It’s just so special and so personal. Just recently, I took to the grill and made my famous ribs for some friends. I also made my special coleslaw, baked beans with bacon and molasses, fennel and mushroom salad, and corn bread. My girlfriend, JJ, is still talking about Ro’s Ribs! LOL…

Happy Birthday, Dr. King and the “Rolonda” Show!
January 21, 2010
Not only did I recently celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I also celebrated the birthday of the first “Rolonda” Show, which launched on January 18, 1994. (It was supposed to have launched on the 17th, but was pre-empted nationwide by the Northridge, CA earthquake coverage.) Being part-owner, host and Supervising Producer of my own internationally syndicated TV talk show, produced by my Watts Works Productions and King World, was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Dr. King’s lessons rang in my ear the day a KKK leader used the “N” word on my talk show…

Charity in 2010
January 15, 2010
One of the many things I want to accomplish in this New Year is to continue working with my favorite charities and conscious-driven groups I believe are out there fighting the good fight for good causes.
In 2009, I got to witness the awesome works of so many, like at the Noble Awards in Beverly Hills, where celebrities, like Lionel Richie and Nancy O’Dell, were honored for their charitable works. It was a reminder of just how many big names are lending helping hands.

At the Pointe Awards this year, celebrities, like Lilly Tomlin and Frenchie joined a star of the TV series “Lost” and others in helping raise scholarship money for gay kids who need a community to support them because their own families won’t.

At the mighty BraveHeart Awards, Les Brown and I presented the Courage Award to my Auntie Maya Angelou. Courtney Cox and Carol Channing were there! And I was proud to host for my Auntie in launching her “National Health Equity Plan” this year in New York City. I hosted her first event, sponsored by Saks Fifth Avenue. Auntie is trying to raise awareness and resources for the fight against diseases that effect minorities.

My New Year’s Eve with the Grucci’s
January 12, 2010
I had one of the greatest honors of a lifetime this New Year’s Eve, when my sweetie and I were invited by the Grucci family to sit in the control tower were they were blasting off their famous fireworks show across the Las Vegas skyline. It was an amazing and magical night. Vinny Grucci and I became friends after having covered so many stories about the famous fireworks family over my many years as a New York City reporter—from their awesome July 4th display from the East River—to the time when Vinny’s dad and cousin were killed in a tragic warehouse explosion. Our long connection certainly paid off this year, when together we celebrated the good times on the roof of the Rio Casino at the VooDoo Lounge. Take a look and Happy New Year!

Rolonda’s New Years Eve
January 12, 2010
I had the most amazing and magical New Year’s Eve this year as, with a kiss, I brought in 2010. I spent it with my family, friends, and my sweetie in Las Vegas, and, boy, did we have a blast!
Now, I am not a gambler, and never dreamed I would ever spend a New Year’s week in Vegas, but I could not resist the surprising invitation I got from Vincent Grucci of the Grucci fireworks family fame. They display some of the best firework shows on earth, from New York, to Dubai, Miami, and Las Vegas. Vinny invited me and mine to sit in the Grucci rooftop control tower while they blasted off the most awesome fireworks display from seven different locations throughout Sin City! It was off the chain!
I also got to see Bette Midler’s amazing show before it closes at the end of the month. Bette has forever been one of my favorite performers and, once again, she didn’t let me down.
I also saw the sexy, risque, and jaw-dropping “Zumanity” by Cirque du Soleil. (Glad we didn’t take Mom to that one! LOL ) My boyfriend, Tyrone, hit it big on the slots—so he treated me to a lovely spa day. We ate great food—had loads of laughs—lost loads of money—but had a great time. I even learned how to play Black Jack, Three-card poker, and now have more respect for The Wheel of Fortune Slot machine! Here’re some shots of our good times….
